About the lab

The ABLE Lab stands for Action on Belonging, Learning, and Evaluation. We conduct research on sense of belonging, identity, social structure, and experiences in marginalized communities, and investigate the roles that policy and programs play in influencing belonging in marginalized communities.

Meet our team

Ananya Tiwari, Ph.D.

Dr. Ananya Tiwari is an ACES faculty fellow and assistant professor in Educational Psychology. Her research interests lie at the nexus of educational psychology, cross-cultural psychology, and evaluation.

Brianna Hampton, M.S.

Brianna is a doctoral student in the Division of Learning Sciences at Texas A & M University. She is committed to serving students and the community, as she is involved in organizations that promote student and community wellness. Her research interests are in the areas of school climate and belonging, racial identity, community, mental health, and motivation and their roles in Black youth academic achievement. In the ABLE Lab, she explores the role of a sense of belonging and exposure to positive role models in the educational aspirations of adolescent girls. Brianna is dedicated to investigating ways to enhance student learning and engagement, and how best to facilitate the learning process for marginalized youth. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time in nature, traveling, running, and cooking.

Charlie Brunt, M.A.

Charlie is a doctoral student from Australia in the Counseling Psychology program. Her research interests stem from her experiences working abroad in the Middle East. She conducts research on women who migrate and their experiences with integration, reverse culture shock, belonging and meaning-making, social connectedness, and counterfactual thinking. In the ABLE Lab, she focuses on various psychological factors that influence the educational outcomes of adolescent girls in rural Haryana, India. Outside of school, she enjoys playing touch rugby, watching comedy, and finding coffee shops to meet up with friends.

Meherun Nesa Khadiza, M.S.

Meherun Nesa Khadiza is a doctoral student in Educational Psychology with an emphasis on Development Sciences at Texas A&M University. Her research interest focuses on understanding how subjective life experiences, such as early trauma and abusive family environments, influence adolescent development in areas such as socio-emotional development, personality development, and academic/career achievement. She is also interested in investigating how resilience and motivation can be nurtured to overcome adversities and guide students through life. In the ABLE Lab, she explores the role of a sense of belonging and exposure to positive role models in the educational aspirations of adolescent girls. She is passionate about improving the academic, emotional, and mental health well-being of students in educational settings by enhancing accessibility and the quality of education, particularly for underprivileged students. In her free time, she enjoys reading novels, traveling, exercising outside, and spending time with family.
